On the Road Again...

Camper Van - Northern Territory Outback

sunny 34 °C

We flew from Cairns airport on a 2 and a half hour flight to Darwin. We went straight to pick up our camper van, our new home for the next 10 days. There was 3 double beds, fridge, microwave, grill, stove, tv, and most importantly... air conditioning (that was much needed due to the outside temperature being about 34 °C !).

The first stop was at a supermarket where we stocked up for 10 days in the camper van. We managed to spot a Dominoes pizza takeaway and managed to persuade Mum and Dad to go there!
We had a very long drive to the first campsite which was at a National Park called Litchfield. At Litchfield we went to some waterfalls and swam in a few of the pools at the bottom.

After Litchfield we started to drive down to the Bungle Bungles. Fortunatly we managed to get WiFi and checked our Email to find that the road was closed due to flooding from the wet season. We were quite dissapointed because this was one of the main highlights of our trip to australia. But were fortunate to find WiFi because it saved us from a 9 hour drive that would of been for nothing! We went to some termite mounds and some more waterfalls.

We went to a campsite called Nitmiluk and went on a cruise on a river with scenic views of strange rock and cliff formations. On the cruise Daisy made a friend called Matthew and we kept bumping into him throughout the whole journey in the camper van! On the campsite next to the pool was a tree full of massive bats which were flying around at night whilest we were swimming in the pool.

Next we went to another campsite called Cooinda ( yellow water) which was great. It had a massive pool We went on another cruise which was at sunrise. We learnt lots about then wildlife that lives around the river and we also saw lots of crocodiles. We even saw a water buffalo with a bird of some sort standing on it getting a ride! After the cruise we got a free full breakfast buffet! We stayed there another night then moved on to another campsite called Jabiru. We stayed there 1 night and had a nice meal and swam in the pool. Everything around Jabiru was closed due to floods so we went back to Cooinda. At Cooinda we saw Matthew again and Daisy played with him and Emily played with Mathhew's sister Emma. We went in the pool and relaxed. At night we went on another cruise which was at sunset. It was good although not as good as the sunrise cruise. After the cruise we went out for a meal on the campsite and Mum and Dad had a crocodile burger! They said it was a bit like chicken. We bumped into Matthew again. We stayed one more night and then went to a different campsite.

We went to a campsite called free spirit with Matthew and Emma and then after a night we packed up and handed back the camper van. We flew from Darwin to Sydney.
